More "niche" netbooks sold in 3Q2008 than iPhones

From the department of pointless comparisons. For those of you who have trouble with figures, there is only one iPhone manufacturer and around half a dozen netbook manufacturers – the list can be summarized as Acer (38.3%), Asus (30.3%), HP (5.8%), MSI (5.7%), Dell (2.8%) and a few others. Now, last time I checked, anything divided by five or six is smaller than the original, so those 5.6 million netbooks are a much smaller volume than the iPhone sales (supposed to be 4.7m) when split.

And I’m not even going to pick up the bit about Apple “needing” to launch a netbook. Could we please have some better (i.e., apples to apples) reporting on netbook market growth?
