emacs

The editor I stopped using a long, long time ago, for three reasons:

  • It doesn’t come installed by default on all machines (which happens to be a good thing)
  • It’s become bloated as hell – a fact only disguised by the fact that distributions have gotten so big it’s only 10% of a minimal install that includes it.
  • There’s a Usenet newsgroup called alt.religion.emacs (and it’s a very old newsgroup). I am now one of the , and see no real reason for going back (although it’s scary how I still remember some key bindings).

Resources

  • mg, a micro-edition with surprisingly extensive functionality, and which is actually bundled with macOS.
  • Aquamacs, a native Aqua build by David Reitter
  • Versor, multi-mode cursor navigation.
