Twitter is one of those odd things brought upon us by the Web 2.0 "social networks" revolution. I'm hesitant as to whether to classify it as yet another attempt at reinventing the IRC wheel, IM/Jabber tack-on web status, or CB radio via JavaScript.
Which reminds me: they do have a nice JavaScript color picker in their settings page.
